Exploring Paris by Bike: Supporting International Delegations in Shaping the Cities of Tomorrow

What better way to understand how a city is evolving than to explore it by bike?

Last week, Paris Bike Tour had the pleasure of supporting a three-day immersive program in Paris, organized by Reimagining the Civic Commons and Better Block Foundation..

The program brought together around thirty professionals from across the United States, including public-sector leaders, foundation representatives, and nonprofit organizations working on public space, mobility, and urban transformation.

For the participants, the goal was to gain a firsthand understanding of some of the initiatives that have helped transform Paris into a city increasingly focused on cycling, active mobility, and more people-centered public spaces.

Discovering Paris by Bike, On the Ground

Alongside Paris en Selle, Paris Bike Tour helped deliver the cycling components of the program.

Our role included:

  • Leading a cycling session exploring Paris;
  • Coordinating the movements of a group of around 30 participants;
  • Organizing different stops and meeting points;
  • Accompanying the group between several locations across Paris and Saint-Denis;
  • Providing on-the-ground logistical support throughout the cycling portions of the program.

One of the highlights was a session led on-site by Agnès Bonhomme from the City of Paris, giving participants the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the transformation of public spaces and the policies shaping the city.

Logistics Designed for an International Group

Organizing a cycling experience for a group of 30 people across Paris is a genuine logistical challenge — particularly when the program involves multiple stops, different neighborhoods, and a tight schedule.

The group also included cyclists with a wide range of abilities, from beginners to experienced riders.

Our role was therefore to make sure everyone could fully enjoy the experience while ensuring that the group moved smoothly and safely from one location to the next.

As Krista Nightengale, Executive Director of the Better Block Foundation explains, logistics were one of the main concerns when organizing the program:

“Paris Bike Tour made everything run incredibly smoothly. They handled the drop-offs, provided extra support at stops, and guided us safely — even during rush hour.”

Beyond simply getting around by bike, the experience gave participants the opportunity to gain a local perspective on the transformation of Paris and on the initiatives that have helped reshape the role of cycling in the city.

Cycling as a Tool for Understanding the City

For a study tour, professional delegation, or program focused on urban planning and mobility, cycling offers a unique perspective.

Some of the changes taking place in a city can remain abstract when viewed from a bus, car, or even on foot. On a bike, they become immediate and tangible.

Participants can observe the design of a cycle lane, see how an intersection has been redesigned, understand how different modes of transportation interact, and experience firsthand how people use public spaces.

Cycling becomes much more than a means of transportation: it becomes a powerful tool for observation and learning.

It also allows participants to cover more ground in a relatively short amount of time and connect different urban projects and initiatives within a single program.

Local Expertise for International Programs

At Paris Bike Tour, we regularly support companies, institutions, universities, associations, and international delegations looking to discover Paris from a different perspective.

We can support different aspects of a program, including:

🚲 Cycling support
Guiding groups with different levels of cycling experience and organizing bike-based journeys throughout Paris.

📍 Logistical coordination
Managing routes, stops, schedules, meeting points, and transfers between different locations.

🏙️ Discovering Paris and its transformation
Creating routes that explore the evolution of the city, particularly around cycling, mobility, public space, and urban planning.

🤝 Working with local partners
Coordinating with associations, institutions, experts, and local stakeholders to enrich the program and provide participants with a deeper understanding of the city.

Our goal is to allow organizers to focus on the content and objectives of their program, while we take care of the realities of moving a group safely and efficiently around Paris.

Thank You for a Great Collaboration

A big thank you to Krista Nightengale and Marissa Lopezas well as the teams at Reimagining the Civic Commons and Better Block Foundation, for their trust and for this inspiring collaboration.

We are particularly happy to contribute, in our own way, to these international exchanges around mobility, cycling, and the transformation of cities.

And most importantly, thank you for giving us the opportunity to showcase Paris differently: from the perspective of a bike, on the ground, and alongside the people helping shape the city.
