One fine morning in the Bois de Boulogne... three gentlemen

marmottan

On a fine October morning, the Bois is decked out in the shimmering colours of autumn, the swans are frolicking on the banks of Lake Superior, the sun shimmering in the droplets of their mother-of-pearl plumage... and a chilly breeze is whispering to you to take a little break in the warmth, to see all these colours reflected in the eyes - but what an eye! - of three gentlemen: Hodler, Monet and Munch.

They will be on display at the Musée Marmottan-Monet, not far from the Bois de Boulogne, until 21 January. If we can't bring together these three artists who are essential to the history of art, their works will be brought together, contrasted and compared for a colourful debate! But how do you paint the impossible?

Off the beaten track, far from the crowded Louvre and Orsay, the more intimate Marmottan-Monet museum promises a carefully thought-out temporary exhibition, centred on unifying themes (water, wind, snow...) dear to our artists, who are all too often categorised and filed away in art books as intransigent as cold, rigid filing cabinets. Our guides noticed straight away. Unlike the usual professional curators, critic and art historian Philippe Dagen, rather than launching into grand speeches, simply let the guide-lecturers muddle through the works. It was an epic moment, almost frightening, yet so instructive and obvious! The choice of works and their well thought-out arrangements encouraged us to debate them, to talk about them amongst ourselves and to think about them again as we left the exhibition.

A dialogue of works for a dialogue of visitors: a successful operation!

Let yourself be inspired by them on your winter walks, to go from motif to masterpiece, from masterpiece to motif, and in this way take part in the dialogue of not three great imitators, but three great creators.
